Deadly Cozy – Just for you and yours… Muahahahaha…
The first time Sally stepped away from the house only to be chased back into the house by a crazed orange tabby cat was memorable. Memorable because, to hear her tell it, Sally has no pets.
She called the cat Spaghettio owing to its resemblance to a plate full of the popular canned pasta rings covered in that orangey-red sauce. For levity she labeled the cat a guy trying to dominate her activities.
But where did he come from? Why is he so determined to keep her a prisoner in her own house?
Between her mankin, Rodney’s, calamitous misadventures with his new bionic arm and the wheelchair and the berserk visiting cat, Sally’s got her hands full. Can she solve the insane cat mystery and save Rodney from his new arm?

Attention Parents of Youngsters – Is Choosing Books for Your Teeny Bopper a Frightful Experience?
I say teeny bopper because the powers-that-be can’t decide the age group of young adults. Some say a young adult is 18-25 years old. Others identify a young adult as 12-18 years old. I choose the term teeny bopper to cut down on confusion.
For this post a teeny bopper is from 12-18 years old. Give or take a year or two because not all youngsters fit an age mold.
In case you haven’t noticed, by the time your child reaches the ripe old age of 12-years-old, they’re flexing their wings to test their flight path.
What can you do to encourage successful test flights?
Please understand that I am not a child psychologist. I am simply the proud and relieved mother of three honorable full-grown daughters. And I was once a teeny bopper. I confess that what I am about to share with you has not been tested on young sons. You have to be the judge of that.
But back to the matter at hand; choosing reading material for teeny boppers.
What I came to tell you about is a series of books that follow a teen girl in her journey of dealing with events youngsters are faced with daily. Events like her mother with cancer. Bullies. A vanishing father. And a friend of another color to name just a few.
The protagonist’s name is Mary Linn Hassenpfeffer (the p is silent). She’s about 15-years-old. And she’s doing the best she can to grow up in her own chaotic world of changing schools often, caring for her mom while her dad is on the road, and learning about life. She’s conquering the thorns in her side without turning to props like drugs or alcohol.
But she’s not perfect. She has a goto hobby that helps her cope and raises many eyebrows.
Her hobby throws her into mysteries to solve and snap judgements she has to make to survive.
Her life is an adventure to spark your – and your child’s — imagination.
The takeaways include:
Confirmation that daily challenges happen to everyone
Confidence in your ability to make good decisions in your own shoes
Flash tests happen. Do your best to write the test and move on.
Having a helping others hobby is good
Embrace friendships that appear by accident
It’s good to think and act independently of the crowd
Could Mary Linn’s teen stories be a help in guiding the path of your own youngsters – excuse me – teeny boppers?
Did it happen again? Here you are… the clock is ticking… you need gifts that will entertain, encourage, and teach… in an hour? Yikes!
Take a breath. It will be fine. Your people will know that you searched and searched and then nailed it just for them. They’ll never know that you simplified and saved your sanity (shhh — if you don’t tell them).
Sit back. Relax. And let your fingers do the shopping with these fast and easy grabs.
Gander through… Click it… Voila! Phew!

Happy Trails and Tales from Alexie Linn, Aaralyn Rae and friends
But wait! You might also like…
A teenager who enjoys graveyards? What’s up with that?
A quirky teenager’s mysterious adventures.
Alexie Linn is intrigued by Mary Linn’s hobby. What moves a teenager to scout graveyards for other’s lost ancestors? Is she a ghoul? A vampire? A witch in a secret coven? What is she really in search of? Blood? Ghosts? Magic? Or is it her own bloodline? Her father’s secret past that Joan has mentioned? Or is graveyard hunting simply Mary Linn’s way of escaping from the trials and tribulations of being a teenager? So many options…
After about 40 books and a few years, Alexie Linn has her own special routine of idiosyncrasies to produce a quality read. Relatively fast and easy… so to speak.
When she was puzzling out her own quirks, she wondered how much do you really know about the author of the books you read? How do you picture your reading material being written?
Is the author hunched over a monster desktop computer on an antique oak desk in a windowless den? Or is he or she perched at a folding picnic table under the tall pines talking to the squirrels between bits of copy?
Where does the next revelation come from? Is there a method to the writing obsession?
Like any other business, authors set methods and policies to turning out their prose. Although they may not be aware of it for the first dozen, or so, books. But, with time and experience, a modus operandi emerges and a professional is born.
If you’ve read or listened to several Alexie Linn books, you may have picked up on these characteristics of her books. Is this article one of those subtle… or not so subtle… take aways?
Here are the 7 Alexie Linn idiosyncrasies for your learning or affirmation lessons.
The stories are inspired from real events. Because so many stories are told within the stories, it takes a passel of real events to write even one complete book.
Characters are inspired by real people. You could easily recognize bits of yourself or someone you know in the characters that materialize when they appear on the scene. Do you?
100% of writing is done between the hours of 2 AM and 8 AM. These are the hours when the Alexie Linn brain is in a churning granny gear. The rest of the world is quiet. It’s dark. Intrusions are minimal or not at all.
Every book is a cozy. Alexie Linn believes her purpose is to bring warmth, comfort, and relaxation to you, the reader. Whether you’re stuck in traffic or unwinding in a quiet corner, Alexie promotes upbeat, light hearted optimism for you in every book she writes. But don’t misunderstand. Bad things still happen to unsuspecting characters. Have you lived a mysterious misadventure with Sally the Loner yet?
Every story has at least one subtle… or not so subtle… take away message. Because every story is a learning experience. It might be confirmation that you are not alone. Or poignant situations that you aren’t dealing with at the moment. And the reminder that your own egads moment could always be worse.
Facts are researched for accuracy before they are allowed into a story. As in Book 9 of the Sally the Loner Series, Alexie went on a fact-finding mission to convey accurate protocol of how lawsuits are generally handled. Is that another subtle lesson? Is that information that you can pull out and use in real life… should you find yourself wanting to sue someone – or are being sued.
Methods of getting out of pickles have to pass a ‘possible’ and ‘logical’ test. The most memorable instance that Alexie can recall is the time the protagonist stopped at a convenience store on her way to investigate a hiking trail. The heroine bought a cup of coffee, a snack, and an umbrella stand. She carried the umbrella stand with her out into the woods. When the antagonist appeared, she heaved the umbrella stand at him to knock him out. Really? Hmm. (FYI… not in an Alexie Linn book)
And there you have it. 7 things you didn’t know about Alexie Linn. And now you do. How can you apply these things in your own life? Have you snagged a copy of Sally vs The Marauders: The Case for the Defense?
BUT! If you only want updates and pre-order deals of new releases of Books, Vellas and Audibles, the easiest way is to follow me on Amazon. When you get an email notice of a new book release, simply ask for it by the title – or for all the Alexie Linn authored titles at your favorite retailer.

A memorable life-changing cozy mystery and adventure…
Two women lay sprawled in front of my truck. They are very dead. Queenie sits like a statue on the passenger side of my vintage Chevy pick-up looking like the circus fat lady that she thinks she is – but she’s not laughing. I am on sabbatical in the Kaibab National Forest, feeding my own free spirit with life changing time by myself, much needed and anticipated after my last exhausting coaching case.
I know none of these women, but the two dead ones seem to have known me because they have magically materialized near each of my camps for a couple of seasons now. I met Queenie last evening and was simply lending a hand – or, in this case my truck and nutritional expertise – to a woman in temporary need. Our less than 24-hour kinship was an uncomplicated ‘women helping women’ moment – I thought.
While this could be a wearisome story of murder and mayhem, it isn’t. It’s the story of how one woman’s life changing personal transformation had a ripple effect in solving a cold case and enriching personal growth.
Who am I, you ask? I am Joan Freed, the rebel life coach and nutritional therapist. You’ve never heard of me? That’s okay. I keep a low profile intentionally.
My office is wherever my 19′ Wilderness RV is parked – which is never in an RV park if I can help it.
